Mother-Daughter Annual Book Talk
I mentioned in a prior post that my daughter and I have a friendly competition to see who can read the most books throughout the year and on New Years day we go to Starbucks with our lists and talk about what we read. She won the contest this year at 55 books:) Her favorite book was The Giver by Lois Lowry with Twilight by Stephenie Meyer coming in a close second. The Uncommon Reader by Alan Bennett made her top ten list (I told her to pretend the curse words were not there). She has been so excited about some of the challenges I joined that she is going to do the YA challenge and some of the Novel Challenge mini-challenges with me. I may have lost the contest but everytime I see her reading I feel like a winner. (Please excuse my cornyness;))

How lovely, you deserve to be proud.
An annual book talk is a wonderful idea! I find that when I talk about books with loved ones, the conversation meanders to so many other areas of life. It's always a lovely bonding experience, and I find you can learn so much about people through the books they read, and likewise, you reveal so much about yourself. I hope you and your daughter continue this tradition for many years to come!
Ruth - Thank you.
Charley - An individual's reading is definitely revelatory. I suppose that is one reason I immediately look for books when I enter a person's home. You can learn so much (unless there are no books which always makes me a little sad). When talking to others about books, I love when you hit upon common books that are loved. The level of excitement and happiness shoots through the roof.
