Each week Alyce at At Home with Books shares one of her favorite reads from her pre-blogging days and ask other to join along. If you would like to participate click on the image above.
On the nights when my daughter asks me to choose the books to read before bedtime, this one makes it to the pile more than any other. The Library is written by Sarah Stewart and illustrated by David Small. This is one of those books which makes me wonder if adults love it more than children. In this family, both my daughters have liked it but never requested it on their own where as I love it and often read it by myself.
Stewart tells the story of Elizabeth Brown who...didn't like to play with dolls,/She didn't like to skate./She learned to read quite early/And at an incredible rate. The reader shares in the different seasons of Elizabeth's life which are dominated by reading and the collecting of books. The charm of the story is matched by the pictures created by Small.
The Library is a picture book which only takes a few minutes to read (longer if you linger over the illustrations). If you have some time to spare next time you are at the library, I urge you to pick up The Library.

This sounds enchanting!
I had seen this one on a bookstore shelf and thought from the cover that it looked like a charming read. However, I did not pick it up to find out! Now I'm feeling very much inclined to do just that! Glad you mentioned it today.
I haven't seen this book before, but it looks like a lovely picture book. I'll have to see if my library carries it.
This is one of my kids' and I favorite picture books. Stewart's The Gardener is also wonderful!
That's another book my kids' had! Loved it; beautiful illustrations.
Alyce - I hope they do:)
Paperback Reader - Enchanting is the perfect word!
Carrie - I hope you get a chance to:)
Lisa - Isn't it great. I would think that anyone who loves book would enjoy it.
Carrie K - I haven't read The Gardener. I am heading to B&N tomorrow...I'll have to see if they have it.
This sounds like a perfect book to buy for my nephews and then 'forget' to give it to them! Enchanting!
Nobody could blame you for forgetting...happens all the time:)
