I'm Dreaming of a Grey Christmas

Persephone grey, that is, and wondering if others will want to join in and spread the Persephone cheer by playing Secret Santa to our fellow Persephone-loving bloggers. Here are the particulars:

1. Email me at slaven614@gmail.com on or before November 10th with your name, address (all personal information will be destroyed after completion of gift exchange), a list of Persephone titles you have read and/or own and specify whether or not you are willing to ship your gift internationally.

2. On November 11, names will be randomly drawn and participants will be notified as to who they are playing Santa to.

3. Using the list of Persephone titles provided by your recipient, go back through your assigned blogger's posts looking for favored authors or subject matter and choose a title you know the blogger will enjoy.

4. At this point, it is up to you as Santa how creative you wish to be in the workshop. You can order the book, have it gift wrapped and sent straight on to the recipient...or you can have the book sent to you first and go a step further by including a small gift that is homemade, bookish in nature or related to how you celebrate Christmas, then wrap it all up and send it on its way. Either way make sure you include a card revealing your identity. (Please indicate in your email if you will be including an additional gift.)

5. With the increase of packages being sent during the holidays, please aim to have your package delivered before or during the first week of December. Take into account the extra time needed if shipping internationally or if you are going on vacation.

6. On December 15th, let's get together by posting who your Secret Santa is and sharing what he (or she) brought you.

7. Spread the word...the more the merrier! Feel free to use the image above.

If after signing up, something comes up to where you cannot participate, let me know as soon as possible so that I can make other arrangements. Please consider all costs involved before participating (for the book, for any shipping, the additional gift, etc.). This is meant to be fun, not stressful, and I wouldn't want anyone to feel overwhelmed by the commitment.

If you have any questions, you can leave a comment or email me.

Thank you to Claire at Paperback Reader for your help in coming up with the particulars and to my oldest who will be assisting in the matching up so I can play Santa too.

Boy! You have been busy since I've been by to visit! I have some catching up to do!

I so hate it when my job interferes with my blogging.

Rose City Reader - Life does tend to get in the way:) I have been sacrifing my sleep to reading and blogging this year but that will need to stop in 2010...more discipline at least where blogging is concerned...can't or I should say won't cut back on reading.

Paperback Reader - Thanks so much for all your help and getting the word out. I'm looking forward to the 11th:)

Mrs.B. - Thank you for joining in the fun!

Question: Do we need to buy the books directly from Persephone, or can we buy them from our local bookseller or another online source that stocks Persephone books? Living in America, it would be a lot more efficient for me to get my secret santa gift locally!

I think I may be joining you on this one. Being newbie to Persephone I am a little worried that I won't pick an appropriate title for the person I am buying for...but it sounds like too much fun to pass up. I will email soon with my details...

leaningtowardthesun - Wonderful! Thanks for joining in:)

Thomas - We could also use the option of asking for a wishlist if there are any difficulties or worries about picking the wrong book. Whatever it takes to make it fun...no stress:) So glad you are joining in!

Steph - Please do what works best for you. I am in the US too, so will be using a different source to order the book. Claire pointed out that Persephone will still benefit from the sale, the only downside being that there won't be the matching bookmark included:( Hope this helps.

Thank you for introducing me to Persephone books! I'm going to look around and see if I can find a source of them near me. You said you live in the US, where do you order your P. books?

Congratulations on finishing your A-Z Challenge!

I see you read the The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society. That is one of my favorite books this year!

Every Persephone is special. I'll be happy with any Persephone that I don't already have. It's kind of more exciting to have the Secret Santa choose one.

Mrs.B. - Sounds good to me:)

Sharon - Thank you and your welcome:) My last order for a Persephone I did through www.BookDepository.com (not the UK site). Even though the book is still shipped from the UK...this site is easier for me as I don't have to guess at exchange rates...also shipping is free. Unfortunately, you will not receive the matching bookmark unless you go through Persephone itself. I would have to say the Guernsey book is one of my favorites reads this year too:)

Wow! What an idea. I think the idea of a wish list is a good one. That way people wouldn't have to worry that their choice wasn't going to be liked. Reading taste is just so very personal.

Nan - Whichever option is chosen, I am crossing my fingers everyone will be happy:)

What a wonderful idea! I heard about this through An Embarrassment of Frivolities. I shall certainly be joining in, and shall mention the scheme on my own blog! What fun!

Nymeth - There is more than enough room...and along the line of nothing new under the sun...I remember seeing gift swaps last Christmas and Paperback Reader showed me a Virago Secret Santa from last year. The more holiday spirit the better:) I am so glad you will be joining in!
