Too Good to be True

I received a gift card for Christmas from my in-laws and headed directly to amazon to order two CDs (Perry Como and Dean Martin Christmas albums) and a book or two. I found a copy of The Best of James Herriot which was described as "Very Good Condition with Very Good Condition Dust Jacket". All that for a dollar. So I placed the order and waited all so patiently for the slowest of all postal delivery options...economy mail. The book arrived yesterday and, needless to say, the description was too good to be true. Underneath the packing slip, which clearly stated the glowing description of the book, was a book without a dust jacket covered with grime, a discolored cover, and hundreds of light brown moldy spots along the page edges. And the worst offense was the smell of mold and damp when I opened the book. I am still ticked but more than that I am befuddled over the conscience of a person who could place that book and the packing slip together and ship it off to a paying customer. Yes, it was only a dollar but how much does honesty cost?

This is me sulking...

Apparently, honesty is very expensive for some. I've had similar disappointments...

Oh Stacy! I have had such experiences before and it makes me furious, too. Hopefully your negative review will protect other buyers from making the same mistake in future, but that doesn't make it any better for you, I'm sure. I'm so sorry you have a mouldy book!

Oh no! I'd contact them to complain.

Oh my goodness! That is a bummer. I hate it when hopes are dashed like that. Sometimes a picture really is worth a thousand words as they say in those kinds of sales online.

Such a rotten thing to do to someone who was eagerly anticipating a lovely book. There are minor flaws we're all willing to overlook but mold is a terrible thing to send on to someone.

So sorry this happened, Stacy. I like to think that karma will come into play when the sender makes their next treasured purchase.

That does stink. You should definitely complain to the seller and to Amazon, apparently they're very good about that sort of thing. It sounds nasty.

Make sure to let Amazon know this happened. Shame on that vendor!

Else M Tennessen - I should have but I didn't...each time I drafted a letter of complaint it was too angry, so I just walked away:(
